There is nothing more satisfying than collecting your dinner – and one key activity in North Wales is the exciting fishing scene. Whether fishing in a lake, reservoir fishing or fishing along the coast is your thing, you’ll surely find a spot in the area perfect for you. So get the gear ready for a big catch!
If you’d prefer to let your fish back into the water, you can still get the opportunity to sample some of the local seafood. Many restaurants Conwy pride themselves on selling local produce, so you won’t need to go far to find some local Rainbow Trout or Plaice on the menu.
1. Llyn Brenig
The perfect location for fly fishing! Llyn Brenig is a very large lake in Denbighshire – and the regulars will know that there is never a dull day here. You find a lot of brown, tiger and rainbow trout.
2. Pwllheli Beach
Pwllheli beach has a wide variety of fish, making for an interesting day. The harbour is the home to many bass, however, it might not be the best spot for a summer’s day due to high boat traffic. On the beach, you’ll find mackerel, gurnard, dogfish and black bream.
3. Ogwen Valley
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to fishing conditions within the Ogwen Valley. There is a mix of fast-flowing rivers, and small and large pools, perfect for a day’s fly fishing. Catch some brown trout or sea trout, or with traditional spinning, you may get some salmon.
4. Llyn Trawsfynydd
Llyn Trawsfynydd is a very large lake within the centre of Snowdonia. It is usually fairly quiet, making for a very tranquil and idyllic spot. The lake is surrounded by an abundance of wildlife; sheep on farms, and passing ospreys and birds.

5. Llandudno Pier
Llandudno has an overwhelmingly large variety of fish! You’ll never miss a catch of mackerel, pollock or dogfish. After the summer holidays, it should be fairly easy to find a spot in Llandudno.
6. Old Colwyn Promenade
Fishing from the promenade in Old Colwyn during high-tide will find you some of the biggest catches in the area. You may come across bass, codling and whiting.
