Penysarn: Accommodation, Attractions, Activities, Going Out, Shopping, Things to Do, Places of Interest, Outdoors, Penysarn Holidays, Penysarn Area Location, North Wales.

Penysarn developed during the era of mining on Anglesey.

From the 1760s the Parys and Mona mines became the largest producers of copper in the world. As a result, Amlwch became a major copper smelting and exporting centre, during which time Penysarn was noted for its clog making for the mine workers, who represented one sixth of the population of Anglesey - 1,200 people. Evidence suggests that mining began in the Bronze Age - 3,000 years ago -  continuing during the Roman occupation.

From Mynydd Eilian, there are views of the coast and landscape. St Eilian established a religious community here in the 6th century, and the church of Llaneilian, 1.5 miles to the north, preserves many interesting features, including a carved wooden screen and loft. (The key holder is Mrs M Marshall, phone 01407 830349). Waymarked leaflet walks from Amlwch pass through this area and there is a heritage trail leaflet available for Penysarn. There is a very popular car boot sale at Y Bedol Inn every Saturday (tel: 01407 832590).
